Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 6, 2026
Babel ("we", "us") is building the first social network without language barriers. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and your rights over it. We believe in radical transparency — if you have questions, email [email protected].
What we collect
Right now, Babel is in pre-launch. We collect only what's necessary to run the waitlist:
- Email address — to notify you when Babel launches and send occasional updates
- IP address — temporarily, for rate limiting (prevents abuse). Stored with a 1-hour expiry, then deleted automatically
- Referral data — if you joined via a friend's link, we track the referral connection (not browsing history)
- Waitlist position — your number in the queue
What we don't collect
- No tracking cookies
- No device fingerprinting
- No personal data beyond your email
- No data sold to third parties — ever
Analytics
We use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-friendly analytics tool that doesn't use cookies, doesn't collect personal data, and is fully GDPR-compliant without a consent banner. Plausible is hosted in the EU. You can see exactly what they collect at plausible.io/data-policy.
Where your data lives
Your email is stored on Cloudflare Workers KV, a globally distributed key-value store. Cloudflare is a US-based company with EU data processing capabilities. Our waitlist worker processes data at the edge — the nearest Cloudflare data center to you.
How long we keep it
- Email + waitlist data — until Babel launches or you request deletion
- Rate-limiting IP data — automatically deleted after 1 hour
Your rights
Regardless of where you live, you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Deletion — request we delete your email and all associated data
- Correction — update your email address
- Portability — receive your data in a standard format
- Withdraw consent — unsubscribe from communications at any time
To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We'll respond within 30 days.
GDPR (EU/EEA)
Our legal basis for processing your email is consent — you actively submit your email to join the waitlist. You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing us. We do not transfer data to countries without adequate data protection unless protected by Standard Contractual Clauses (Cloudflare's infrastructure).
CCPA (California)
We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. California residents can request deletion by emailing [email protected].
Children
Babel is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has submitted data, contact us and we'll delete it immediately.
Changes
We'll update this policy as Babel evolves. Material changes will be communicated via the email you provided. The "last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
