Babel is a consumer social network built to remove that tax. Every post, every direct message, and every video is translated in real time across 100+ languages, with voice preservation rather than captions — you hear the original speaker, in your own language, in something close to their own voice. Babel is complementary rather than competitive: the intended frame is "run it alongside Twitter, Mastodon, Bluesky, Twitch, or whatever you use today" rather than "replace everything." The product is pre-launch as of 2026, with a public waitlist at heybabel.com. Babel is remote-first, privacy-first, and bootstrapped, with an explicit commitment that the first million members get the product free forever and that no version of Babel will ever carry ad targeting.
Paulo is a solo founder building Babel from scratch. Previously built multiple consumer products; believes the language barrier is the last remaining tax on the global internet and that removing it creates more economic upside than any other single improvement to social software.
